COMPARAÇÃO ENTRE OS SISTEMAS DE CLASSIFICAÇÃO DE RESISTÊNCIA DE PAVIMENTOS AEROPORTUÁRIOS ACN-PCN E ACR-PCR¶
Abstract¶
THIS PAPER PRESENTS A COMPARISON BETWEEN THE AIRCRAFT CLASSIFICATION NUMBER/PAVEMENT CLASSIFICATION NUMBER (ACN/PCN) AND AIRCRAFT CLASSIFICATION RATING/PAVEMENT CLASSIFICATION RATING (ACR/PCR) INDICES OF AIRPORT PAVEMENT RESISTANCE. THE FORMER, DEVELOPED BY AN ICAO WORKING GROUP IN 1977 AND USED SINCE THEN, WILL BE FULLY REPLACED BY ACR/PCR BY 2024, WHEN ALL ICAO SIGNATORY COUNTRIES MUST HAVE THEIR AIRPORT PAVEMENTS STRUCTURES RATED IN TERMS OF THIS NEW INDEX. THE USEFULNESS OF AN AIRPORT PAVEMENT STRENGTH INDEX IS TO ALLOW THE OPERATOR TO MATCH THE OPERATING LOADS AND FREQUENCIES TO THE PAVEMENT OF THAT AIRFIELD, AVOIDING PREMATURE WEAR OR EVEN COLLAPSE IN EXTREME CASES. THE ACN/PCN METHOD FOR FLEXIBLE PAVEMENTS IS BASED ON AN OLD METHODOLOGY FOR PAVEMENT DESIGN, WHICH CONSIDERS SHEAR STRESSES AT THE TOP OF THE SUBGRADE, EQUIVALENCE OF MATERIALS AND LOADS. ON THE OTHER HAND, THE ACR/PCR IS BASED ON CURRENT DESIGN MODELS, WHICH CONSIDER THE DEFORMATION AT THE TOP OF THE SUBGRADE AND THE MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF EACH MATERIAL. THUS, DESPITE THE SIMPLIFICATIONS REQUIRED TO ESTABLISH A STRENGTH CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM, THE ACR/PCR APPROXIMATES THE STRENGTH INDEX TO CURRENT DESIGN CHARACTERISTICS. THUS, THIS PAPER MAKES A COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS BETWEEN THE TWO INDEXES, THROUGH FOUR CASE STUDIES OF FLEXIBLE AIRPORT PAVEMENTS.
