ESTUDO DA IMPLANTAÇÃO DE ENGINEERED MATERIAL ARRESTING SYSTEM (EMAS) NO AEROPORTO JORGE AMADO: ILHÉUS POR MEIO DE ANÁLISE DE RISCO¶
Abstract¶
THE LACK OF ADEQUATE CONDITIONS ON RUNWAYS, SUCH AS A RUNWAY SAFETY AREA (RSA) SMALLER THAN THAT SPECIFIED BY THE RBAC, CAN RESULT IN AERONAUTICAL ACCIDENTS. HOWEVER, CURRENTLY, THERE ARE SYSTEMS WHOSE FUNCTION IS TO INCREASE THE AIRPORT’S SECURITY LEVEL, WITHOUT THE NEED TO EXPAND THE RSA OR REDUCE THE RUNWAY. THE ENGINEERED MATERIAL ARRESTING SYSTEM (EMAS) CONSISTS OF A PASSIVE AIRCRAFT ARREST SYSTEM, IN WHICH THE AIRCRAFT, IN THE EVENT OF A RUNWAY EXCURSION, BY OVERRUN OR VEER-OFF, IT IS COMPLETELY STOPPED, IN ORDER TO MITIGATE DAMAGE TO PASSENGERS, CREW AND THE AIRCRAFT ITSELF. EMAS IS MAINLY USED IN AIRPORTS WITH LIMITED EXPANSION AREAS AND WHICH PRESENT RISKS OF AERONAUTICAL ACCIDENTS, SUCH AS ILHEUS AIRPORT. THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THIS WORK IS TO STUDY THE EFFICIENCY OF EMAS AND RISK ANALYSIS AS AN ANALYSIS METHOD FOR IMPLEMENTING THE SYSTEM AT JORGE AMADO - ILHEUS AIRPORT (SBIL). THROUGH THE RESULTS OF THE EXISTING CONDITION OF RSA, OF THE ILHEUS AIRPORT, AN OVERRUN RISK DURING THE LANDING OF 1.2X10_6 IT WAS OBSERVED. CONSIDERING THE DEPLOYMENT OF EMAS FOR 50, 60 AND 70 KNOTS, A REDUCTION IN THE RISK OF OVERRUN DURING LANDING WAS OBSERVED BY 32%, 35% AND 38%, RESPECTIVELY. IN ADDITION, THE IMPLEMENTATION OF EMAS REDUCES THE OVERALL RISK OF THE AIRPORT BY 32% COMPARED TO THE EXISTING RSA IN ILHÉUS, WHOSE PROBABILITY OF SERIOUS INCIDENTS IS CURRENTLY 7.2X10_7. THROUGH THE ANALYZES DEVELOPED IN THIS WORK, IT IS CONSIDERED THAT THE EMAS DESIGNED FOR AN ENTRY SPEED OF 50 KNOTS PRESENTS BETTER COST-BENEFIT DUE TO THE INCREASE IN SECURITY PROVIDED TO THE AIRPORT AND LESS INVESTMENT IN INFRASTRUCTURE.
